Errors & Omissions (E&O) for Contractors

By September 18, 2019March 14th, 2022Business Insurance

As the construction industry continues to rapidly evolve, it’s important to that your insurance coverage keeps up as well. Most contractors today carry General Liability insurance, but not all carry Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance.

Errors & Omission insurance fills the gap and provides coverage for “your work” and “your product,” which General Liability excludes. Depending on the company, an Errors & Omissions policy can provide coverage for property damage to the named insured’s work, the insured’s product, and impaired property. With the growing need, contractors’ E&O insurance has become more available and affordable no matter what your size of business.

Here’s an example of where Errors & Omissions coverage can be beneficial:

An electrician is performing work in a house, and accidentally causes a fire in the structure he is working on. The damage to the house itself may be covered by the general liability policy, but the actual electrical and electrical work will not be covered. In this case, the E&O insurance would fill this gap in coverage.
