Start with a safety check inside the grill | Open the lid. Check for birds’ nests, signs of rodents, spider webs, insects or accumulated debris. Be sure there are no combustible materials that could ignite when you turn on the grill.
Check connections between cylinder & grill | Check the joint where the hose & regulator connect to the cylinder, the point where the hose feeds into the burners, & the full length of the hose. Look for wear and tear or anything loose or damaged.
Choose a way to detect leaks | Apply either a dish soap solution (liquid soap mixed with water until foamy) or a children’s bubble solution to the connections & hose by using a brush or spray bottle. Cover all connection points.
Turn on gas & look for bubbles | Once solution is applied, slowly open the propane cylinder value and let the gas flow through the hose. Do not light the grill. If bubbles start forming, you have a leak!
Respond to signs of a leak at once | If you see bubbling, turn off cylinder valve & re-tighten all connections. Reinspect hose for cracks or wear. Reapply soap solution & test again. If you still have bubbles, replace the hose & regulator assembly before using grill.
Leak checks should be done whenever you reconnect a propane cylinder or if your grill has been idle for a period of time. Always make sure your grill is used in a well-ventilated area, away from walls, eaves or anything flammable.
